Another new experience – 08/26/2016

Ever since starting PBDD, I’ve confronted new experiences: starting a non-profit, running board meetings, being my own boss, promoting our cause to strangers.

And now, it’s time for another one: hosting a fund-raiser.

To date, PBDD has been living within our means, surviving on contributions from the board and from friends and colleagues who heard of our efforts and have been generous in contributing to help us fulfill our mission.

As we set our sights on the future, the PBDD board has a goal to sponsor a summit gathering our partners together to strengthen relationships and forge a common agenda for the coming years. Pulling together a summit will take focused energy and funding. We will be exploring grants, sponsorships and local fundraising.

During a recent charity event for Make a Wish Foundation, my wife and I spotted “Gelato cart for 75” at the silent auction table. As we considered what fun we could have with that, I spied another item up for auction “Comedy show at your home or business.” The notion of a fundraiser using these two items came to mind, and we plunged into the bidding, emerging as winners of both items.

Ideas swirled for a day or two, ending with a proposal to our local partner, People’s Resource Center, to sponsor a joint fund-raiser. They embraced the concept, and we were off to plan. After research on venues and options, we agreed on a local restaurant with the event to include dinner. With that decision, we deferred the gelato cart to a future event (stay tuned next spring!)

For now, our planning focus is on:
